Gohar Mahal situated behind Shaukat Mahal, on the banks
of the Upper Lake is a magnificent architectural edifice built in 1820
by Qudisiya Begum (Gohar Begum- the first woman ruler of Bhopal). Gohar
Mahal is a perfect blend of Hindu and Mughal style of architecture. Since,
Gohar Mahal has not been well maintained, now it is in a dilapidated condition.
However, the archways of the palace still retains a majestic look. Renovation
works are going on to retain the original grandeur of Gohar Mahal.
