The Birla Museum located at Vallagh Bhavan close to the
Lakshmi Narayan Temple complex is an archaeological museum, established
in 1971. Birla Museum occupies a significant place among the monuments
in Bhopal with numerous informative and interesting artifacts and a wonderful
collection of sculptures from various districts of Madhya Pradesh including
Mandsaur, Shahdol, Sehore and Raisen dating back to 12th century.
Some among the exhibits in the museum includes a scale model of the Bhimbetka
rock shelter with its prehistoric wall paintings, primitive tools and
implements that were used during the Paleolithic and Neolithic period,
coins and manuscripts belonging to 2nd century BC to the 6th century AD,
etc. There is also a small selection of terracotta exhibits from Kausambi.
Birla Museum opens from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on all days, except Mondays
and government holidays.
