Built during Chatrapati Shivaji era, the temple is 90 feet high and 125 feet wide. One can reach the temple by climbing morethan 100 steps.

There is a story behind this temple. It is said that once there lived a moneylender  (banker) and a mint owner of Peshwa Durlabhsheth Pitambardas Mahajan. He was a great devotee of Saptashringee devi. Every year on the full moon day of Chaitra, he travelled from Pune to Vani and visits all the temples of godess to worship her.  But when he became old, it was difficult for him to travel and visit the temples. So he felt great grief and prayed to the goddess for Darshan. The Goddess heard his prayer and appeared to him in his dream. The Goddess told him that she would stay on a mountain in the North-West of Pune and asked him to come there. There he found a natural statue of goddess i. e. (swayambhu devi) and so he constructed the present temple there.

At the entrance one can found the scale model of the entire premises of the temple. The temple celebrates the nine-day Navaratri festival in the month of October every year. During the festival the temple is fully decorated in the traditional Indian style and lit up with lamps. In Navaratri, fair Big Giant Wheels, Merry Go Round, Food Stalls are there in the fair. Main attraction of the festival is the procession of carrying out the silver statue of goddess Chattushringi in a silver chariot, which is held in the evening on the tenth day (on Vijaya Dashami/ Dashahara) of the festival.  Big Giant Wheels, Merry Go Round, Food Stalls etc can be found in the festival. People from different parts of the city participate in the festival with great fervor. The temple is administered by the Chatushringi Devasthan Trustees.
