The largest GPO in India, with its grand Indo-Saracenic edifice designed in 1909 by John Begg, stands opposite Bazargate, the old northern entrance to the Fort, on St. Georges Road. It is the largest GPO in India, accommodating more than 2000 postal workers. It is topped by a huge dome.
