Vasthuvidya Gurukulam
Vasthuvidya Gurukulam, situated at Aranmula,16 km away from the town, is the only institution in India where the ancient Indian architecture and mural paintings are taught. The main purpose of the Gurukulam is to promote and protect mural paintings and vasthuvidya , the pure and ethnic expression of Indian socio-cultural heritage. Administered by the Kerala state cultural department in Aranmula, the center conducts four academic courses in vasthuvidya and mural painting based on the basis texts of vasthuvidya, mayamatham, manasaram, thanthrasamuchayam, silpiratnam and manushyalyachandrika. Gurukulam has a very efficient consultancy center which prepare sketches and plans, designs building for those who are interested in building constructions in the traditional architectural patterns. The mural art gallery, which displays the mural paintings drawn without natural colors and where complex techniques are used, is designed to impart information about these complex forms to the people.

Vijnana Kala Vedi
Located at Aranmula, 16kms from Pathanamthitta, Vijnana Kala Vedi is a cultural center which imparts training in the traditional arts and crafts of Kerala. This training center as well as charitable association was founded in 1977 by a lady French scholar, Louba Schild with the support of UNESCO. The main object of this school is to offer opportunities to the foreign artists, researchers and culturally oriented tourists to be more familiar with Indian culture and art. It is a traditional school for kathakali, mohiniattam, bharatanatyam, karnatic music, tabla, maddalam, hatha yoga, mural painting, wood carving, cooking, kolam, kalarippayatt etc and a language school for the learning of Sanskrit, Hindi and Malayalam. It is also a centre for volunteers to teach English in India. A large number of foreigners visit and stay here to get to know about the culture of Kerala.
