The mosque at Thazhathangadi about 12 km from Kottayam is one of the ancient mosques in India. Believed to be 1000 years old and built by Malik Dinar, a follower of Islamic Prophet Muhammad, the mosque is on the banks of the Meenachil River. The interior of the mosque is adorned with beautiful wood carving, a square courtyard, a bathing area and beautiful latticed windows.
