Vytilla junction is one of the busiest junctions about 3 km south of downtown
Kochi on NH 47, which is a bypass that connects Edapally to Kundanoor/Aroor
avoiding the city bustle. The junction lies to the south of Ernakulam
and further 10kms to the south-east is Thripunithura, to the east of the
junction lies Palarivattom and Edapally, and to the west Kundanoor, Maradu
and Thevara.
Vytilla which was a panjayat was amalgamated to the Cochin corporation
in 1967. Janatha, Power-house, Thykoodam, Kaniampuzha and Ponnurunni are
areas located in close proximity and which come under the same pincode
(682019) as Vytilla. It is a commercial center as well as a residential
area.
Vytilla, along NH 47 towards Maradu is now home to a number of
automobile showrooms. There are two hospitals Welcare, Mother and child
hospital in Vytilla and major schools in the area include Toc H Public
school near Janatha, St. Rita's H.S in Ponnurunni and C.K.C.L.P.S . Ponnurunni
has a famous ashram where the to be saint Father Theopphin is venerated.
There is a bylane starting from Vytilla junction to Ponnurunni- Thammanam
and another to Kaniampuzha.
Vytilla has its own shopping malls with V-Mart supermarket & margin
free market selling groceries and household stuff and Kemco selling branded
clothes, luggage, leather bags and belts etc including international and
local brands and Wardrobe with casuals for youngsters. Kemco and Wardrobe
are seconds sale outlets which offers designer ware and branded clothes
at reasonable prices. Other such outlets include Raymond Seconds and Priceless.
There are several eateries, bakeries, banks etc in and around the junction
as well. Just over a kilometer to the east from Vytilla junction is the
sprawling Gold Souk Grande mall in 5,00,000 sq.ft which offers apart from
gold jewellery, a Hypermarket, Wedding & other lifestyle retail Brand
Stores with over 200 national and international brands, Anchor Stores,
Multiplex and Food Court including KFC, Pizza hut outlets etc
One can enter Ernakulam city via Sahodaran Ayyappan Road (SA) road from
NH 47 at Vytilla Junction, which is one of the main gateways to the city.
