Bekal, an important tourist destination of Kasargod is located on the seashore of Pallikara village at a distance of 12kms south of the town. The place which is said to have been the seat of a big palace, derived its name from the word 'Baliakulam' meaning Big Palace. With the passage of time, it name got corrupted as Bekulam and later came to be known as Bekal. The archeological significant Bekal fort and the beautiful Bekal fort beach are the major attraction of the place.
