The centuries old Hasanamba temple with an ant-hill representing the presiding
deity Goddess Hasanamba is a highly revered shrine in Hassan, said to
be named after this smiling goddess. The temple is believed to be came
into operation during the reign of Krishnappa Nayaka in the 12th century.
The importance of the temple is that it will open only
once in a year for about a week, during the Ashwayuja month; i.e in October.
On these days, devotees can have a glimpse of the goddess from 7 am to
1 pm and from 3pm till 10 pm at night. A big 'Jatra' or fair is also arranged
on this occasion.
