Set up on two and a half acres of green plot on Kanakapura Road, Shankara
is a fascinating cultural centre for artists, artisans and art lovers. Founded
by renowned classical dancer Ms Rashmi Gopi Hegde, this recently
established foundation showcases craft melas, art exhibitions, regular
classical performances by renowned upcoming classical dancers, fusion
groups etc. There is also a department for children called 'Ranga Guccha'
which was established for the benefit of rural and urban children. Now
the department hosts martial arts workshops, painting, music, handicrafts,
short-term courses in performing arts for children.
This foundation has an art studio, craft stalls, open-air amphitheatre
(Bhoomandala) and a lovely open air circular cafe Nakshatra (where Indian
food is served), decorated with lanterns and a contemporary art studio
(a place for those who wish to display their art work).
