Badkhal Lake
Covering an area of
206 acres of land, the picturesque lake of Badkhal is situated in Badkhal village
of Faridabad, about 32 km from Delhi. The lake derived its name from the Persian
word bedakhal, which means free from interference. This man made embankment
with plenty of flowering trees, landscaped gardens and Green lawns is surrounded
by Aravalli hills and provides amusing water sports facilities. Badkhal Lake
is an ornithologist’s paradise with a variety of local and migratory birds. It
is the home to numerous species of local birds and during the winter season
migratory birds from far west can be seen around the lake.
The main attraction of Badkhal lake is the flower show held every year during
the spring. Boating through the lake are arranged on request. Facilities like
rest huts, motels, restaurants, conference hall, fueling station, bath complex,
children's park, sauna chamber and massage units, bank extension counter etc.
are available. The best time to visit the lake is during mid-monsoon season.
Close to the Badkhal lake there is another picturesque spot named Peacock Lake.
It also provides facilities for water sports, boating, canoeing, kayaking etc.
Baba Farid's Tomb
The tomb of Baba Farid located in Faridabad is a popular pilgrimage
for local people. It is believed that Faridabad was named after this eminent
Sufi saint, who is said to be the founder of the city.
Surajkund
Situated at a distance
of 20kms from Delhi ( 8 Kms from South Delhi) Surajkund is a village in Faridabad
lying between the villages of Baharpur and Lakkarpur. The Surajkund complex,
believed to be built by the Rajput King Surajpal of Tomar dynasty, consists
of a beautifully done-up Rajhans, a garden and a pool of fresh water - Siddha
Kund, which is believed to have healing properties. Surajkund literally means
'Lake of the Sun'. Some says that the place derived its name after a famous
Sun temple, which is said to have stood here once and some claim that it was
named after King Surajpal.
The remains of the sun temple can be seen around the Surajkund Lake. The lake
is an artificial man-made reservoir surrounded by rock cut steps specially built
for the purpose of boating. This popular picnic spot with its serene surroundings
and beauty is the venue of an annual crafts fair held in the month of February. Top
Aravalli Golf
Course
Aravalli Golf Course, set up by Haryana tourism in 1988 is located at Faridabad
town on Delhi-Agra (National Highway No.2), about 30 km from Delhi. The first
golf green was initially set up in the year 1966 with a building designed by
the famous architect named Joseph Allan Stein. Due to the lack of maintenance,
it was handed over to Haryana tourism and reintroduced as the Aravali Golf Course.
The lush, green golf course sprawling over an area of 45 acres of land was designed
by Stephen Kay, a renowned golf course architect from the U.S.A and has an 18-hole
facility. An 18 hole game can be played with the repeat of the 9-hole game.
The golf course had the distinction of holding annual Golf tournaments, in which
a wide range of amateur and professional golfers participate. Membership to
the course is open to both Indian and foreign tourist. Different membership
packages are available here like the corporate memberships, student memberships,
government employee memberships, weekend memberships and life memberships.
The course has a club house which has the facilities of restaurant, bar, luxury
rooms and conference hall. Apart from these, the club house provide the provision
for billiards and has a card room for those who would like to play a game or
two of cards. Cottages are available for rent for those who would like to stay
a few days. Catering facilities are also provided.
Town Park
The town park situated at sector 12 in Faridabad is a popular leisure spot of
the people. The main attraction of the park is its verdant green lawns
with a variety of natural trees and plants. It offers various rides specially
for children and a couple of eateries. It is a perfect place to enjoy and relax
with the entire family.
Raja Nahar
Singh Palace
The historical palace of Raja Nahar Singh also known as Ballabgarh Fort-Palace,
dates back to 18th century AD is situated in the heart of the town of Ballabgarh,
about 15 km from south Delhi, on Delhi Agra highway (NH-2). Though the
earliest parts of the palace were built by Rao Balram the predecessor of Raja
Nahar Singh, during his supremacy in 1739A.D and the palace was named after
the Raja Nahar Singh, who gave up his life in the War of Independence that happened
in 1857. The palace is similar to the palaces of Deeg and Bharatpur, which is
decorated with intricate cupolas and minars on its four corners of which only
two can be seen now, due to age and neglect.
In the year 2003, the palace has been taken over by the Haryana Tourism and
converted into a heritage motel-cum-restaurant. The palace which was in ruins,
has renewed to a wonderful specimen of architectural design with the help of
well known team of experts of Francis Nacziarg and Aman Nath. The palace beautified
with antiques, relics of a bygone past, stone jallies and intricately carved
arches, take one back to the times of the Raja Nahar Singh. The facilities here
include six beautifully decorated guest rooms with A/c, restaurant, bar, lounge
and period style courtyard, gardens and pavilions which are ideal for holding
grand heritage weddings. The palace and its surroundings is the favourite spot
among the producers of teleserials.
The palace is the venue of exhibitions, musical nights, fairs and melas with
crafts, food-stalls, acrobat etc. Fashion shows , meditation , yoga and art
of living courses are also conducted here.
A stadium named Raja Nahar Singh Stadium was built in Faridabad
in 1981 for playing international cricket. It has the capacity to accommodate
around 25,000 people. There is also an outdoor tennis court. The facilities
available here are health club, restaurant, card room coffee shop, president
box, commentator box, media box and press box etc. A beautiful rose garden is
located besides the stadium with different varieties of roses.
Dabchik
Dabchik, the most attractive place visited by a large number of tourist, is
located in a small town called Hodal in Faridabad. Covering an area of 13 acres
of land, the Dabchik tourist complex on the Delhi-Agra highway, is one among
the scenic station in the state of Haryana. The resort offers comfortable living
in single rooms, deluxe rooms, cottage, camper huts, air-conditioned restaurant,
gift shop, conference room, fast food counter and filling station.
The major attraction of this beautiful place is the small lake located behind
the complex. Boating facilities as well as pony, camel and elephant riding are
available here. The lawns of the resort are beautifully adorned with different
species of plants like draping veronica, bright bougainvillea, tall silax and
casuarinas and one can see peacocks and geese wandering all over the lawns.
