Ubharat
A place of natural beauty and the developing tourist destination, Ubharat lies
42 km south of Surat in the Valsad district. It is famous for its beautiful
and serene, fine, sandy beach with a backdrop of shady palm groves. The beach
and its surroundings gives an unforgettable experience to the tourists. Swimming
in the beach too far from the coast is strictly prohibited.
Bulsar (Valsad)
The small town of Bulsar also known as Valsad is located at a distance of 69kms
away from Surat. Bulsar is famous for its handloom clothes, dyes, bricks, and
pottery and it has a castor-oil-extraction industry. Bulsar exports cotton and
silk fabrics, grain, timber, tiles, and molasses. Local transport is available
from Surat to reach Bulsar.
Ukai
Located 94 km away from Surat, Ukai dam is a popular tourist destination
in the state of Gujarat. The dam, which is considered as the biggest in the
state can store a huge quantity of water. With its picturesque surrounding the
place attracts tourists from various parts of the state. An irrigaton project
named Vallabha Sagar sarovar project has been developed here.
Tithal
Tithal, located 108 km away from Surat and 5 kms from Valsad city on the Bombay-Vadodara
Western Railway, is famous for its beautiful sandy beach. Overlooking the Arabian
sea, the beach stretching the western part of Valsad is having black coloured
soil. For the children there is a play area while the grown up have palm sheltered
cottages to relax and enjoy the nature’s beauty. October to March is the best
season to visit this place.
Tithal is also famous for its mangor and chikoo farms. A Shirdi Sai Baba temple
and a Swami Narayan temple are located here. Traditionally prepared cuisines
are another attraction of this place. One could find many shops and stalls that
sell various kinds of souvenirs.
Vansda National
Park
Established in 1979 in the district of Navsari district on the National Highway
8, Vansda National Park is located 80 km north- east to the city of Valsad.
The park is a haven for the wild animals and it is a pleasure of the animal
lovers to observe them closely. Comprising an area of 24 km² this
dense forest houses a wide variety of forest lives such as tigers, leopards,
python, four-horned antelope, pangolin, barking deer, rusty spotted cats etc.
It is a home to a colorful species of birds such as Great black woodpecker,
Malabar trogon, shama, emerald dove, grey hornbill, racket-tailed drongo, paradise
flycatcher, leaf birds, thrushes, sunbirds, pea fowls. Nature lovers and tourists
visit this place, specially during the month of October to March. Jeep safaris
are available to go around the park and observe the wild animals closely. Read

Saputara
Literally means the ‘abode of serpents’, Saputara is a densely wooded hill resort
situated in the Dang district, at a distance of 164 kms from Surat. Preached
at an altitude of 875 m above the sea level on a plateau in the Dang forest
area of the Sahyadri range, the place is known for its wildlife excursion tours.
The saputara hill station has all the necessary amenities like hotels, swimming
pools, boat club, theaters, ropeways and even a museum which exhibits tribal
ornaments and musical instruments and provides information about the tribes
of Dangs. On the banks of the river Sarpganga, there is an image of a serpent
that is worshipped by adivasis or tribal on festivals like Holi. A waterfall
named, Gira waterfalls and the wild life sanctuary in the Mahal Bardipura forest
is located at a distance of 52 and 60kms respectively from Saputara. Other major
attractions of this place include saputara lake, sunrise point, echo point,
botanical garden, hatgadh fort, nageshwar temple, purna sanctuary etc. The best
time to visit this place is from the middle of March to the middle of November.
Purna Sanctuary
Situated at Mahal, 60kms north of Dang district, Purna Sanctuary is a thick damp
deciduous forest covering an area of 160sq kms. Crossed by Purna and Gira rivers,
it is the home to various species of animals like sambar, chital, rhesus macaque,
hanuman langur, common grey hornbill, tiger, leopard, rusty spotted cat, four
horned antelope, giant squirrel and so on. The sanctuary is a trekkers paradise
with the bamboo line pathways. Prior permission is required to visit this sanctuary.
November to March is the best season to visit the sanctuary.
