Rampara Wildlife Sanctuary

The Rampara Wildlife Sanctuary is a compact woodland located at a distance of 47 kms from Rajkot airport. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from post monsoon to mid winter (September/ October to January).

This area was acquired by the government in 1975, declared as a reserve forest in 1983 and notified as a Sanctuary in 1988. The area was managed as a 'vidi' i.e grassland and it was capable of producing 4 lakh kg of grass annually. The woodland is spread over an area of 1501 ha and the terrain is plain in the middle with hillocks at the periphery and an undulating terrain in between. Two streams drain the watershed of the Machhu river which is an important river of Saurashtra.

The sanctuary is home to 280 species of plants, 130 species of birds, 20 species of mammals, 20 species of reptiles and several species of amphibians and invertebrates. The major wildlife species found here are Nilgai (bluebull), Chinkara, Wolf and Fox.
