Kankaria
Lake
Kankaria Lake is a man made lake located in the south-east of Ahmedabad city.
It was constructed by Sultan Qutub -ud-Din in the year 1451. There's a zoo,
natural history museum and children's park by the lake and an island garden
called Nagina Wadi which attracts bird life. It is a polygonal lake with 34
sides and internal sluice gates. The lake was in earlier times frequented by
the Emperor and his queens, but is now a popular picnic destination with tourists
and local people alike. The best time to visit the lake is in the evening..
Chandola Lake
Chandola Lake is located at the Dani Limbda Road in Ahmedabad. It is an artificial
lake erected by the wife of Mughal Sultan Tajn Khan Nari Ali. It was originally
built to serve as a reservoir of water. The water from this lake is used for
irrigation as well as for industrial purposes. The tomb of Shah Alam lies adjacent
to the lake. The lake acts as a tourist spot. The best time to visit this place
is during the evenings..
Vastrapur Lake
VVastrapur Lake is located in the western part of Ahmedabad city. The lake was
beautified by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and has since then become
a popular tourist spot. Green lawns surround the lake and these serve as venues
for various cultural events. The garden adjoining the lake is good with a lot
of stone work etc. Boating facility is also available here. At times, water
from Narmada river is allowed to flow into this lake. The Indian Institute of
Management is located near the lake.
