Crafts Museum

Location: Bhairon Road, Pragati Maidan. Ph. 011-23371641

Features:
It contains over 20,000 pieces of traditional Indian crafts from all over the country. The 18th to 20th century objects including terracotta sculptures from Tamil Nadu, bronzes, enamel work, wood paintings and carvings are placed here. The folk and tribal gallery has the objects constructed from the materials locally available. It highlights the mythology, ingenuity and whimsy that exists in so much of India's folk art.  The upper floor exhibits the best saris and textiles and its  embroideries, mirror work and appliqués.

The National Museum

Bal Bhawan National Children's Museum & Aquarium

Features: Toys of India and other countries, Mobile Planetarium , Mini zoo, Aquarium, Regular classes and workshop on performing art and creative art for children, traditional jewellery, study kits etc. 

National Gallery of Modern Art

Location : Jaipur House, Near National Stadium, India Gate, Near Delhi High Court, New Delhi- 110003. Ph: 011-23382835
Timing:  10:00am To 5:00pm. (Monday Closed)
Features: Vast collection of books. The museum houses an art reference library which has a vast collection of books and superb collection of paintings dating from 150 years ago. A collection of best contemporary art reproductions. Paintings and sculptures of Daniells, E.B.Havell, Jamini Roy, Amrita Shergill and Rabindranath Tagore. The museum organize special exhibitions periodically.

National Museum of National History

Location: FICCI Building, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi- 110001.Ph. 011- 23319173
Timing:  10.00 am to 5.00 pm  (Monday Closed)
Features:
The focus in this museum is on ecology. Huge dinosaur and huge birds of pre historic ages and variety of plants and animals. Activity rooms for children. Film shows from 11 am to 3 pm

Rail Transport Museum

Location: Chanakyapuri, Shanti Path, New Delhi. Ph. 011- 6881816,6880939. Fax : 011-6880804
Timing: April-Sep. 9.30 am to 7.00 pm  (Monday Closed)
Oct- Mar. 9:30 am to 5 pm.
Features: Collection fascinating and exotic collection of engines including  and 26 vintage Locomotives And 17 quaint Carriages. Main attractions are the Fairie Queen of 1885 the oldest working steam locomotive, the luxury saloon of the Prince of Wales(1875) and the saloon  of the Maharaja of Mysore.(1899), Maharaja of Baroda's Saloon (1886). Children can enjoy a ride on the miniature rail track.

Red Fort Museum of Archaeology

Location: Red Fort, Delhi .Ph: 011- 23267961
Timing:  10.00 am. To 5.00 pm.  (Friday Closed)
Features: Display a collection of curios and artifacts from the Mughal period, including a manuscript copy of the holy Koran in Nasq characters.

Shanker's International Doll's Museum

10 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Features:
The Museum has today,  6,000 dolls collected from almost over 85 countries and a third of the collection has been gathered from different parts of India. Each doll is resplendently dressed in costumes that represent the country or the region they come from. The Museum opens from 10 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. The entry fees are Rs. 10/- for adults and Rs. 5/- for children

Tibet House Museum

Location: Institutional Area, Lodhi Road, New Delhi Ph: 011- 24611515
Timing: Summer: 9.30 am to 1.00 pm 2.30 pm to 6.00 pm. Closed on Sundays and second Saturdays.
Winter: 9.00 am to 1.00pm 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm
Features: A comprehensive collection of Tibetan sculptures, paintings, house hold objects, thankas, old currency notes, head pieces, prayer objects and musical instruments.  Some objects have been collected from monasteries in Tibet while others have been created at the various Tibetan settlements scattered across India. The building also houses a library and an emporium.

National Philatelic Museum

10.00am To 5:00 pm  (Saturday & Sunday Closed)
Features: Displays rare  Stamps, first day covers & special cancellations are display at the museum. Counter for sale of stamps from all over the world.

Red Fort Museum of Arms and Weapons

Collection of mughal weapons, medals, paintings, dresses used in the first world war.

Air Force Museum

Features: Collection of Aircrafts, bullets, guns, uniforms and photographs, tracing the history of the Indian Air Force. 

Gandhi Smiriti Museum

10 to 5pm All day.
Features: Pictures and text  of Gandhi's life and the Independence movement including  Exhibition of dolls depicting important landmarks in Gandhi's life.
