Deccan Festival
The five day long vibrant Deccan festival, which usually begins on 25th of February
reflects the tradition and culture of the Deccan area. Also known as Hyderabad
festival, it is conducted by the Tourism Department of Andhra Pradesh. The festival
is the venue for hosting cultural shows, which include Ghazals, Qawalis, Poetry
etc. and exhibitions. Various renowned singers and dancers are invited here
to perform during the festival. Other highlights of the festival are the arts
and craft shops and the food stalls that offer delicious items exclusive of

Pearls and Bangles Fair
This fair is associated with the Deccan Festival. The fair exhibits gorgeous
creations of the famous lustrous pearls and multi-hued bangles that are local
specialties. Cultural programs, food stalls arts and craft shops etc. are also
organized in the fair.
Lumbini Festival
Lumbini Festival which highlights the Buddhist heritage of Andhra Pradesh is
celebrated in Nagarjunasagar in Hyderabad. The festival, organised by the Department
of Tourism of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, commences on the second Friday
of December and lasts for three days. Named after the birthplace of the Buddha,
Lumbini festival provides an insight to relive the 2000 year old past of Andhra
Pradesh when Buddhism was a prevalent religion. Top
Mrigasira Festival
Popularly known as Mrugam, the unique Mrigasira festival is held in the month
of June or July. The festival which is connected with the asthma treatment is
celebrated with a feast of local fish. The treatment, which is believed to have
herbal properties and has a tradition of more than 150 years, deals with the
swallowing of small live freshwater fish called maral which is believed to bring
great relief to asthma patients.
Ugadi
Celebrated not only in the Hyderabad, but throughout Andhra Pradesh, Ugadi marks
the new year of the state. The festival is celebrated with much splendor and
gaiety in Hyderabad.
Arts and Craft Festival at Shilparamam
An annual all India festival of arts and crafts is organised in the first two
weeks of March at the craft village, Shilparamam. During this festival, craftsperson's
from all parts of the country come here to exhibit their exclusive creations.
The festival brings to limelight the cultural and artistic traditions from every
nook and corner of the country.
International Kite Festival at Shilpamaram
Kites fill the skies of Hyderabad with high flying colours during the Kite festival
which is one of the popular events organised at Shilparamam in the month of
January. The festival attracts people of all ages who take part with kites of
all shapes, sizes and colors. A Kite-flying competition is also held.
