Popularly known as Mrugam, the unique Mrigasira festival is held in the
month of June or July. The festival which is connected with the asthma
treatment is celebrated with a feast of local fish. The treatment, which
is believed to have herbal properties and has a tradition of more than
150 years, deals with the swallowing of small live freshwater fish called
maral which is believed to bring great relief to asthma patients.
