RanchiLake

Ranchi Lake is located at the heart of Ranchi, at the base of the huge Ranchi hill. It is adjacent to Ranchi Telephone Exchange and a few minutes walk from the GPO. Excavated in 1842 by Colonel Onsely, a British agent, this beautiful lake offers boating facilities to the visitors. Large number of people visit this lake. One can enjoy the beauty of the hill and the Shiva temple at the hilltop from the banks of the lake.

 

Machali Ghar
Machali Ghar is an aquarium located near CCL headquarters in front of governor house on Kanke Road, 1.5km from Albert Ekka Chowk. It consists of several species of beautiful fishes.

Angrabadi
Angrabadi is situated about 40 kms from Ranchi near Khunti. It is a temple complex consists of the temples of Lords Ganpati, Shiva ,Ram-Sita and Hanuman. Fascinated by the tranquil, peaceful and celestial beauty of Angrabadi , Shankracharya Swami Swarupanand Saraswati rechristened it as Amreshwar Dham. 

Muta Crocodile Breeding Centre
The Crocodile Breeding Centre at Muta is situated at a distance of 23 km from Ranchi on Ranchi Ramgarh Road near Ormanjhi. It covers an area of 0.02 sq km.It was commissioned in 1987 under the IUCN programme for conservation of endangered species. Crocodile breeding was started here with 5 Crocodiles, 3from Madras Crocodile Band and 2 from Bhera River. Marsh crocodile was first spotted in Bhera River in late 1960s, which flows nearby. There are around 50 crocodiles. A small forest rest house maintained by the Forest Depts and a Rest-shed cater provided here to the need of visitors.

Rock Garden & Gonda Hill

The Gonda hill is situated 9 km north of Ranchi and 4 km from Albert Ekka Chowk, on the Kanke road. The serene hill with a water reservoir at its top, Kanke lake and dam at its foot and a rock garden carved out of the rocks is an ideal place for a picnic. The rock garden has several structures or statues made of granite, waterfalls and a swing made of iron bar, which has only two poles. The garden is similar in design of the Rock Garden of Jaipur. On its foothills there is a Mental Asylum, one of the largest in the country designed by the British with a view that the cooler environment would be helpful for psychological health. The Gondawana House, Head quarter of the Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) is located in front of the hill.

Ranchi hill
Ranchi hill is situated about 2 km from Albert Ekka Chowk on the Ratu Road in Ranchi at an altitude of 2,140 ft above sea level. The main attraction of the hill is the Shiva Temple or the Pahari Mandir at its top. Large number of people visit this place during the month of Shravan to attend the Shravan Mela as same as that of Baidynath Dham at Deoghar, and also during Mahashivaratri. The place is not only a pilgrim center but also has developed into a popular health and holiday resort . One can have fantastic views of the city from the top of the hill. The greenery around especially during rainy season, and the Ranchi lake at the base makes it an attractive place. Before visiting the temple most of the pilgrims take a dip in the waters of the Ranchi Lake. 

Ranchi University Museum
Ranchi University situated at Shaheed Chowk has a museum in its Anthropology department. The museum established in 1974, consists of ethnographic collections of central Indian states and Andaman and Nicobar Islands and exhibits prehistoric implements, stone sculptures, terracotta's, numismatics, several images, coins, inscriptions, manuscript, comprehensive picture of peoples lifestyle and social structure. Guide services are available for the visitors. Museum opens from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm. Closed on Sundays and University holidays.

Tribal Research Institute and Museum
The museum located at the Tribal Research Institute building at Morabadi Road has a collection of stone sculptures, terracottas and arms as well as ethnological objects. It also exhibits life and history of tribal people of Chotanagpur. Open 10.30 am to 5pm.

Tagore Hill
Tagore hill named after the famous Tagore family is located near Ram Krishna Mission Ashram at Morabadi.It is said that Ravindra Nath Tagore wrote several of his books at the top of the hill which is at a height of around 300ft. Besides the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, the Centre of Divyayan and Agararian Vocational Institute is also situated at the foot of the hill.

 

 

Birsa Jaivik Udyan
Birsa Jaivik Udyan is a Zoological garden located about 16 km from Ranchi on the Ranchi-Patna National Highway near Ormanjhi. The main attraction of this garden is the collection of mammalian fauna. There are also different species of animals, trees and plants. One can enjoy the natural beauty here. Top
