Pahari Mandir
Temple of Lord Shankara (Lord Shiva) alias Pahari Mandir is situated 7 km away from Ranchi Railway Station at Ratu Road. The real name of this beautiful old mandir, about 300 ft. high, is 'Richi Buru'. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva. During Shravan month, large number of devotees gather here to thank Lord Shiva for his blessings and offer Jal (Dhara) to the Lord. The temple built on top of Ranchi or Fansi hill can be reached by climbing a flight of steps, numbering a few hundreds. From there one can have spectacular views of the city and the Ranchi Lake which is flowing through the bottom of the hill.

Jaganathpur Temple
This 17th Century old temple of Lord Jagannath is located 10 km south west of Ranchi at Jagannathpur near Firayalal chowk (Albert Ekka chowk). It was built in 1691 by the king of Barkagarh Jagannathpur, Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo on top of a hillock. The temple complex which stands like a fort with its chambers, gardens and shrines, with idols and flags is very attractive. The architecture of the temple is similar to the famous Puri Jagannath Temple. Rath yatra or Car festival similar to that of Puri is held every year in the the month of Ashadam ( June/July) which attracts a large number of devotees both tribals and non-tribals.

This temple complex comprises of three shrines dedicated to Krishna, Balabhadra and Subhadra. Built with brick walls, the exteriors are white washed while the interiors are exposed. One can reach the temple either by climbing the rocky mud road on one part of the hill which leads to the temple courtyard, or the two staircases in cement which leads up to the main gate. The other attraction of this temple is the figure of Hanuman on one of the niches inside, and Garuda the vahana, outside the temple. 

Sun Temple (Surya Temple)
The Sun temple is situated about 39 km from Ranchi on Ranchi-Tata Road near Bundu. This temple, one of the highlights of Ranchi is architecturally very attractive and has received the title "a poem written in stone". The temple built by Sanskriti Vihar headed by Shri Sita Ram Maroo, the Managing Director of Ranchi Express Group is designed in the form of a gigantic chariot with 18 richly decorated wheels (9 on each side) driven by 7 life- like white horses. The temple in a calm and peaceful environment has a pond in its complex, which serves as a sacred place for Chhathavratis (devotees taking part in the Chhath Pooja, ie Festival of the Sun God) for worshipping the Sun. It is believed that by taking a dip in this sacred pond the devotees will get relief from all sins. There is also a beautiful dharamshala, intended for the devotees and the tourists. The temple which fascinates the tourists by its beautiful surroundings and locality of Chhota Nagpur Plateau region is well-connected by a motorable road.

Rajrappa Mandir


Chinnamastika Temple or Rajrappa Mandir is situated 80 km from Ranchi on Ramgarh Chitarpur Road, at the confluence of two rivers Damodar and Bhairavi (Bhera) in Rajrappa. The place Rajrappa derives its name from this ancient temple also known as 'Shakti Pith'. The main deity of this temple is Chinnamasta (means one with severed head) or Goddess Kali (also known as Prachanda Chaandi) and its main attraction is the headless statue of Goddess Chinnamastika which stands upon the bodies of Kamdeo and Rati on a lotus bed, holding her head in her hand and one can see a gush of blood flowing out of her neck. Similar to that of other temples of Tantrik importance, Chinnamastika Temple is famous for its architectural beauty. This is one of the famous Hindu pilgrimage centers visited by large number of devotees from the nearby states of Bihar and West Bengal. Rajrappa Temple is surrounded by a series of small and big temples of ten Mahavidyas such as Tara, Shodashi, Bhubneswari, Bhairavi, Baglamukhi, Kamla, Matangi, Dhumavati, Kali etc.

The main rituals held at this temple during Kalipuja are marriage ceremonies, Children's Mundan rituals, animal sacrifices on Tuesdays and Saturdays and the blessing of new vehicles. The temple is famous for its religious fairs, one held on Makar Sankranti (14th of January) and the other on Vijayadashmi. Large number of people visit the temple to attend these festivals. There are bathing and boating facilities in the river near the temple. The temple set amidst picturesque surroundings has hills, forests and even a waterfall in its environs.

Rajrappa has one of the biggest coal-fields in the region. Attractions other than this temple include Raj Kund; the Hot Spring, Tilaiva Dam, Konar Dam, Crocodile Farm, Tiger Reserve Palamau, Fort of the Chero King Medini Roy, Betla Forest etc which makes this place not only a pilgrimage but also a tourist spot.

Baidynathdham
Baidynathdham or Babadham is a famous Hindu pilgrimage center located at Deoghar. The Baba Baidyanath temple complex consists of the main temple of Baba Baidyanath (Lord Shiva) where the Jyotirlingam is installed, and 21 other temples. In Shrawan month, huge number of devotees come on foot from all over India to pay homage to Lord Shiva. The main ritual of this temple is the offering of the holy water of river Ganga (from Sultangaj about 100 km far from Babadham) on the Kamna or Jyothir Ling. This ritual is held throughout the year especially on Monday of every week.
