Applications are invited on prescribed form for admission to the following courses for the academic Year 2009 - 2010

Super Speciality Courses

  • DM Degree in Neuroradiology
    Eligibility : MD/DNB in Radiodiagnosis
    Duration : 3 Years
    No. of Seats : 2
  • DM Degree in Neurology
    Duration :
    (i) 3 Years for Post MD/DNB in General Medicine or Paediatrics Candidates
    (ii) 5 Years for Post MBBS Candidates
    No. of Seats : 8
  • M.Ch. Degree in Neurosurgery
    Duration :
    (i) 3 Years for Post MS/DNB in General Surgery Candidates
    (ii) 5 Years for Post MBBS Candidates
    No. of Seats : 6

Ph.D. Course

  • Ph.D. in Clinical Neurosciences (ICMR Programme)
    Eligibility : MBBS degree with not less than 55% of the Marks of any University recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The Candidate should have completed satisfactorily one year compulsory rotating internship or its equivalent as recognized by the MCI after passing the final MBBS examination and must have full registration with a State Medical Council.
    Duration : 5 Years

Post Doctoral Fellowship Courses

  • Neuroanaesthesia
    Eligibility : MD/DNB in Anaesthesia
    Duration : 1 Year
    No. of Seats : 4 (2 for foreign/sponsored)
  • Neuropathology
    Eligibility : MD/DNB in Pathology
    Duration : 1 Year
    No. of Seats : 2 (1 for foreign/sponsored)
  • Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
    Eligibility : MD/DNB in Psychiatry
    Duration : 1 Year
    No. of Seats : 2 (1 for sponsored)

B.Sc. Courses

  • B.Sc. in Nursing
    Eligibility : (i) Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12 years course) OR (With Physics, Chemistry,
    (ii) Senior School Certificate Examination Biology & English with Pre-degree Examination (10+2) OR a minimum of 50%
    (iii) An Equivalent with 12 years of aggregate)Schooling from a recognized Board
    Duration : 4 Years
    No. of Seats : 77
  • B.Sc. in Radiography
    Eligibility : (i) Pre University Course OR
    (ii) Job Oriented Diploma course from a recognized Board with Diagnostic (With Physics, Chemistry, Radiography as vocational subject or Mathematics, Biology & Equivalent OR English)
    (iii) An Equivalent with 12 years of Schooling from a recognized Board
    Duration : 3 Years
    No. of Seats : 10 (4 for Sponsored, 6 for private Candidates)
    If the number of candidates from either of the two category is less than indicated, the corresponding number of candidates will be selected from the other category.

Diploma Courses

  • Diploma in Clinical Neurophysiology Technology (DCNT)
    Eligibility : B.Sc. with Physics/Electronics/Computer Science with minimum Second Class in the qualifying examination or Diploma in Electronics/Electrical/Instrumentation/Computer (Approved by Board of Technical Education) or PUC with 3 years Experience as EEG Technician.
    Duration : 1 Year
    No. of Seats : 8 (4 for sponsored)
  • Certificate Course in Neuroimaging & Technology (CNT)
    Eligibility : Diploma in Radiographic Technology from Vocational Board of Government of Karnataka or equivalent qualification or Bachelors degree in Radiation Technology from any recognized University or equivalent qualification.
    Duration : 1 year
    No. of Seats : 2

Common for all Courses: The qualifying degrees for all the above mentioned courses should be from a recognized University. For medical qualification, the degree should be recognized by the Medical Council of India.

In respect of Medical Courses, the candidates should have completed one-year internship and registration with State Medical Council on or before 31st July 2009 (proof of completion from competent authority to be produced at the time of joining, failing which admission will be cancelled).

Reservation : In respect of B.Sc. courses and Diploma in Clinical Neurophysiology Technology (DCNT), 15% seats are reserved for SC, 7.5% seats are reserved for ST Candidates.

Application Fees :

Medical Courses: Rs.1000/- per course and Rs.750/- in case of SC/ST candidates (non-refundable)
B.Sc./Diploma Courses:
Rs.700/- per course and Rs.500/- in case of SC/ST candidates (non-refundable)

Admission Details :

Application forms and Prospectus can be downloaded from our website and can also be obtained from the Director, NIMHANS on request by mentioning the course and enclosing a Demand Draft towards application fee drawn in favour of the Director, NIMHANS, Bangalore-560029, along with a self addressed stamped envelope (30cm x 25cm) affixing stamp worth Rs.20/-

Candidates may apply for more than one course provided they are eligible. Candidates can apply in the same application (Medical Application) form for all Superspeciality/Post Doctoral Fellowship courses. Candidates applying for B.Sc. and Diploma Courses should apply on separate application (Non Medical) form for each course.

Foreign Nationals are required to submit their applications through the Diplomatic Channel (through the Ministry of External Affairs). They shall also appear for the common Entrance Test along with the other candidates. Sponsored candidates should submit their application through proper channel and they should also appear for the Common Entrance Test.

Duly filled in application should be sent to the Director, NIMHANS, Hosur Road, Bangalore – 560 029 along with a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Director, NIMHANS by superscribing the name of the course applied for on the Envolope without fail.

Applications down loaded from the Website should be accompanied by a Demand Draft towards application fee.

Age Limit : For superspeciality Courses age should not be more than 32 years for MBBS degree holders and 35 for PG medical degree holders, relaxable in case of SC/ST Candidates by a maximum of 5 years as on 1.8.2009. For sponsored candidates age should not be more than 40 years as on 1.8.2009.

For B.Sc. courses, age should not be less than 17 years as on 1.8.2009 and should not have completed 25 years as on 1.8.2009
