HEALTH SERVICES

In the development programmes for health, special emphasis has been seen laid on the eradication of various diseases like malaria, small pox, trachoma, leprosy, tuberculosis, etc. The health infrastructure has been extended to far-flung areas, under the mother/child  health care and family welfare  programmes, providing health care at the doorsteps of the people.

The state has made considerable progress in the field of medical education . There are two medical colleges, one in Jammu and the other in Srinagar. A full -fledged medical institute, Sher-i-Kashmir  Medical Institute, is functioning  at Soura, in Srinagar . The institute has a 600-bed complement  and provides facilities for post-graduate  medical education and medical research.
